QHSE POLICY
RECYCLING
Seahorse Engineering takes our impact on the environment very seriously. Our ultimate aim is to reduce all negative impacts on the environment.
To achieve our environmental targets we have adopted the 3R’s principle; Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Whilst recycling is the element which receives the most exposure it should never be the prime target in the battle to reduce waste.
Our Duty:
- Reduce Usage
- Reuse wherever possible
- Recycle
We constantly strive to reduce energy consumption throughout all sites and head office and intend to develop an Energy Policy Plan which will realize “Energy Champions” for each site.
At Head Office we have:
- Installed night storage heaters
- Fitted energy efficient lighting system – resulting in reduced electricity consumption.
Wherever possible we strive to make our sites as green as possible, not only does this help reduce our CO2 emissions but it also reduces our internal waste and therefore reduces our end costs.
- Our company encourages its employees to adopt eco-friendly practices, such as turning off lights and electrical equipment when not in use.
- To minimize paper waste, staff are advised to avoid printing documents unless necessary and to use both sides of the paper when printing is required. Email is also promoted as a preferred method of communication. Waste paper is collected in recycling bins that are available in every office.
- To reduce environmental impact, we collect printer ink cartridges and send them to a company that refills and resells them.
- Additionally, we have a designated recycling bin for clothing and household items at our head office, which is collected by the Heart Foundation for resale in their charity shops.
- On construction sites, we prioritize waste recycling by sorting materials on-site. When separate waste disposal skips are not available, we ensure that the waste is sorted for recycling by collaborating with waste disposal companies that have recycling facilities.
Sustainability Senior Manager, Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy assured us to volunteer technical guidance to Seahorse Engineering in achieving our Environment & Climate pledge
(January 2023)
As part of Environment & Climate pledge for the year 2023 onwards, we reached out to Mr. Örjan Lundberg, Sustainability Senior Manager, Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy to request technical guidance and support to our environmental endeavors. We are thankful and delighted to receive overwhelming assurance along with valuable technical guidance and reports like, WASTE MANAGEMENT; DUST MANAGEMENT: BEST PRACTICES FOR CONSTRUCTION SITES; FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ Sustainable Stadiums, among others. He was also kind enough to connect us with several key stakeholders in Qatar who have similar visions and are doing remarkable work towards environment and humanity.
He appreciated our Environment & Climate Pledge 2023 and underlined, “It is unique to see such initiative coming up from a contractor’s side. We usually see such efforts from design and architecture companies. Great leadership and Good Luck!”
We aim to make most use of these knowledge along with our QHSE mandate to minimize disturbance to the local and global environment. We vow to comply fully with all relevant statutory regulations in this regard.
We understand that a small but significant effort must be taken now and as a construction company we are firm in this regard. We also welcome other stakeholders to join hands towards sustainability.
